I grown up in the beautiful area of Provence, not too far from gorgeous villages like Gordes, Lacoste and Rousillon...
I was especially fascinated with the last one, Roussillon, and the stunning houses there made from the famous ochre, in different sumptuous shades of red and yellow.
Actually the ochres are composed of iron oxide, clay and quartz sand. They were specially used as colour for painting. We loved to walk in the "little Colorado". It was just inspiring. Could you imagine, seeing this, how we are spoiled by Mother Nature? This is a real jewel. And it is not a coincidence that there are so many artists living around. I had the same feeling the first time I saw Sienna in Italy. I was totally in love! (It was from this that I chose the name Sianna for my daughter, in memory of this special place - and now it's the name of my natural skincare range!)
Clay has been used by throughout history in many industries, including construction, medicine and beauty. This wonderful natural product should be present in all houses. A powerful exfoliator and cleanser, this natural ingredient invigorates the skin, helping it look young, fresh and glowing. Available in green, white, red, pink, yellow or Ghassoul, which clay should we use?
Green clay is the most effective. Rich in minerals and oligo-elements as magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, copper and selenium, its principal properties are restoring mineral balance, detoxifying and absorbing toxins. Green clay is known to exfoliate, clean and refresh the skin. Minimising the appearance of the pores, it helps to refine, tone and firm the look of skin. Suitable for all skin type but ideal for acne-prone and oily skin.
Red clay has properties to cleanse skin, removing dead cells and reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. Extremely absorbent and purifying, it is suitable for normal, oily, acne-prone or broken capillaries. It's great at toning and hydrating mature skin and smoothing wrinkles, revitalizing and brightening aged or tired skin. Excellent for repairing skin damage.
Pink clay is the mildest purifier of all the clays, suitable for normal, mature, sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skins. Removes dead skin cells, leaving skin with a refreshed and youthful appearance. Minimizes blackheads, reduces enlarged pores, broken capillaries and dark under-eye circles.
Yellow french clay is a mild clay so it can be used on dry or sensitive skin. A powerful regenerating clay, it removes dead skin cells and tightens and tones the skin, leaving a smooth, fresh and radiant feeling. Revitalizes damaged or tired skin. Its colour is due to the high level of iron oxide.
The Ghassoul clay is sourced from the Atlas mountains in Morocco and contains high levels of silica and magnesium. It was mentioned in Egyptian papyrus for its regenerative, protective and healing properties. Its benefits: reduces sebum secretion, eliminates blemishes, unclogs pores and draws out toxins, nourishes the skin with minerals, and increase elasticity of the skin.
As you can see, clay is the perfect weapon to complete your beauty routine! Sianna Skincare has three clay masks to cater for every skin type - use once or twice a week to get the full benefits of the power of clay! See our clay masks HERE.
